Serving the states of Washington, Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and New Mexico, Washington Federal Savings provides mortgage and construction financing for single and multi-family residential housing. As a traditional thrift, we also provide FDIC-insured savings and checking accounts at very competitive rates in 150 locations.

The origins of Washington Federal Savings date back to 1917, when Ballard Savings and Loan Association was established in a fishing and lumber community north of Seattle. Since that time, we have worked hard to earn the trust and confidence of our customers. We believe it is our job to provide you with one-to-one, friendly and professional service. That’s why you’ll never have to negotiate through automated phone systems to reach a real person, or jump through hoops to get face-to-face financial advice.

In 1982, Washington Federal converted from a federal mutual to a federal stock association, and 1995 formed a holding company, Washington Federal, Inc. We also operate in New Mexico under the names First Federal Bank, Gallup Federal Savings Bank, and Farmington Savings Bank, and in Washington under the name First Mutual Bank. Washington Federal in the Community

Washington Federal Savings believes that the relationships we have with our local communities are as important as those we share with our customers, stockholders and employees. We believe we have an obligation to operate in a responsible, sustainable manner which supports the health and vibrancy of the communities we serve. It is with this goal that the Washington Federal Foundation was founded.

The Foundation’s purpose is to facilitate direct giving to community-based nonprofits serving the needs of low and moderate-income individuals. The maximum grant is $5,000. We direct our contributions to these areas:

Community Development: As a thrift institution dedicated to financing and promoting home ownership, Washington Federal supports programs and causes which help provide affordable housing for low and moderate income individuals. These causes align with our mission as a thrift institution and help us meet our goals under the Community Reinvestment Act.
Senior Citizens: The Washington Federal Foundation provides support for social and human service agencies which serve the needs of low income senior residents in our communities.
Employee Involvement: Washington Federal will also consider small grants (up to $500) to charitable organizations supported by our employees who serve as volunteers or board members.
Your interest in the Washington Federal Foundation is greatly appreciated. To apply, please review the Donation and Grant applications. Turnaround time for decisions on grant proposals may range from 30 to 90 days.

For more information about our community involvement, please contact us at (206) 624-7930 and ask for Marketing.
